Steps to Becoming a Volunteer

Work one-on-one with clients in our Suiting Program to select professional clothing and accessories for their job search and new employment. Depending on the appointment and time frame, we also offer a makeup makeover. This volunteer opportunity is available during office hours, Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Personal shoppers must shadow a current personal shopper at least twice prior to styling our clients on their own. If you have an eye for tailoring and appearance, are creative and personable with a flexible schedule on the weekdays, we’d love to have you on board!
Help sort clothing donations. Gather a group of your friends and/or co-workers to participate in sorting business suits and separates for a fun few hours. If you are organized and enjoy being productive, we’d be very pleased to have you contribute your skills!
Assist our clients in job application and interview preparation in our Career Center, during business hours. Duties may include helping clients brainstorm new employment opportunities, provide feedback on resumes or cover letters, conduct mock interviews and prepare for a successful job interview. We focus on educating our clients with job hunting and job retention skills. Coaches’ volunteers must attend a two-hour training.
*Everyone can help, but we are always eager to find volunteers with strong computer skills & professional experience in Human Resources and/or career development. If you have proficient communication skills we need you!!!*
Assist with administrative tasks in office by answering phones, helping complete donation receipts, handling data entry and keeping the office organized. Hours are flexible when we get our permannet offices operating. If you enjoy implementing administrative projects, are organized and have basic computer skills, you can commit as little as a few hours a day, week or month as an Administrative/Office Assistant.
Speaker for Professional Women's Group
Our Professional Women’s Group (PWG) program bolsters the careers of successfully employed Dress for Success women by providing them with a network of support, practical information, and inspiration to remain employed so they can truly thrive. If you are a working professional with high level expertise in the topics listed below, please join us: Dealing with Difficult People in the Workplace, Branding Yourself/Establishing Your Reputation, Public Speaking and Presentation Skills, Interacting Effectively with Others, Managing Finances: Living Well on a Limited Income, Health & Wellness, etc. We will hold our meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Mentor for Professional Women's Group
As part of our employment retention services, Dress for Success offers a mentoring program for members of the Professional Women's Group, who are matched with a professional businesswoman with at least five years of work experience. The PWG program bolsters the careers of successfully employed Dress for Success women by providing them a network of support, practical information, and inspiration to remain employed so they can truly thrive. Hours are flexible, depending on your availability and your mentee.
We are always in need of volunteers who can assist with I.T., graphic design, fundraising, marketing and public relations. If you would like to volunteer remotely and have a flexible schedule, your skills are greatly appreciated!
We are seeking motivated and responsible college students or young professionals looking to gain experience working with a nonprofit. Prior interning experience is not required but we do require all applicants to have a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
